Our History
In 1959, the Monelison Volunteer Fire Department was founded by a group of individuals with one common goal: To protect the lives and property of the citizens of Amherst County. At that time there was 1 truck and 1 station to serve our area. Today with the support of the community, the Monelison Volunteer Fire Department has 8 pieces of fire fighting apparatus and three stations that are strategically placed throughout our serving area. Station 1 is located at Amer Court. Station 2 is located at Littleton Lane and Station 3 is located in Elon on Route 130. Our department would not have grown without the much needed continued support of the citizens of Amherst County.
Our serving area stretched over 135 square miles and has a population of 22,000. All of this is protected by 30 members with the same common goal that brought about our very existence.
The members of Monelison Volunteer Fire Department are much better trained and have better equipment to work with than in 1959. Without your support this would not have come about.
Every day brings new fire fighting technology and we ask that you continue to support the Monelison Volunteer Fire Department.
